Spa Billboard Conceptualization

In my college course, we studied how to use art to promote stores and companies in any field that they operate by presenting its purpose for existing. I picked a spa business and emphasized the positive vibes of being away from work and home. When you are utilizing the spa, a customer will feel at peace and not far from nature. I came up with the slogan, "The place that activates relaxation." I photoshopped and pieced together everything.

Fluevog Shoe Ad Assignment

I entered the "Change the future of advertising for the better, one Fluevog Ad at a time" Campaign. Fluevog Creative gives talented and aspiring artists the chance to create a Fluevog ad that will grace the pages of magazines around the globe. I designed an appropriate Fluevog ad for the "Rory " Shoe, the black and white version. I felt it had a 60s-70s vibe so I looked up some inspirational quote from that era. I found and decided to turn a popular Timothy Leary, the Harvard professor quote into something I understand. "Turn on your mind, Tune in to what matters, Drop the negativity." I added it to the background of my ad with colors inspired by that time. I also found a beautiful model with a similar style to the famous Twiggy also called Dame Lesley Lawson. I love the big eyes and the long eyelashes look accentuated by the application of more lashes on top of the natural ones. The model that I used as the foundation for my Adobe illustrator vector art is Peggy Moffit. I then constructed the ad around the illustration of the Rory Shoes and added some abstract elements. Landline phones were a big innovation in that time and they helped to connect people to what they love including items like shoes.

Homeless Shelter for Women Advertisements

I recently traveled to Saskatchewan and visited homeless shelters for women. I volunteered at one and that is when I first saw the real horrific wounds of domestic abuse. I saw a young women with two children feeding her youngest with a very dark purple black eye. It shocked me to see this and it saddened me. I also saw a woman who could not stop crying in her room because of abusive relationship nightmares. I talked to an ebony woman who told me she never felt like she could stay in one place for too long and was always afraid of being touched and she wondered how she could ever share a bed with someone. She might randomly scream in the middle of the night or get in a fight without much thought. She confided in me and expressed that she prays every night and wishes for all of this trauma to go away. She just wants to be a normal person with a normal life and maybe meet a normal future husband and have kids.
In my room I noticed it was a lot nicer than in some other shelters, I think they did a fine job making the building accessible and comfortable for single mothers, kids and women. That night I was exhausted and crawled into bed and reflected on everything that I had seen and been through. I know Jesus Christ does not like women to be abused. I feel like certain devils don't care and others do. Why are some people magnets and why do good women die when they have been through so much hell that they didn't deserve? People have told me lots of stories to try and explain things but honestly I am not super sure what is true anymore. I think the bad guys who don't learn their lessons should be weeded out so they don't inflict any more pain on the good. I leave it in the hands of God to judge and organize. I am just a servant who also has her own batch of injuries but it seems like the more we suffer, the more we understand other peoples' sufferings if not always their successes. I am happy for those that overcome, but it's still a mystery to me how God evaluates things.
I know Canada cares about the vulnerable. I know God watches over the people as well. I am proud to be Canadian, I just wish I wasn't so weak sometimes. Caring is a super power but it needs protection just like anything in this world.

Later that week I went home and worked on poster advertisements and a website mock up for women shelter concepts as my final project for the advance advertisement class.

Beaver Buzz Energy Drink Advertisement Poster

Positioning Statement

Who is it for? The 18th anniversary Beaver Buzz energy drink poster is marketed towards snow athletes, but it is for anyone that wants an extra buzz of motivation.

Why would they buy it? The snow berry flavor is mild, different and sweet. Same great buzz of energy but with a new 18th anniversary savor that tastes delicious.

What type of product is it? It is a Beaver Buzz energy drink.

What is the key benefit of the product? It is a canned drink that gives you energy when you drink it that is made with natural ingredients.

How is it different from the competition? It is made with more natural ingredients than other energy drinks. If you drink it your energy buzz lasts longer, and it doesn’t make the body crash with exhaustions.

What is the product name? It is called Beaver Buzz energy drink.

To begin this assignment I had to build a picture collage that inspired winter sport energy into my creative brain. I also illustrated a cute kawaii, angry beaver cartoon that is supposed to resemble the Beaver Buzz energy drink logo. I ended up not really utilizing this drawing but I still like that I made it. Then I came up with a new flavor for the 18th anniversary flavor called "Snow Berry." Peace Teas already have that flavor but not Beaver Buzz. It's a very mild sweet berry like flavor. Then I gave my can a turquoise color because this company has not made an energy drink with a turquoise color yet. I also edited the original Beaver Buzz logo to fit the number 18 and photoshopped everything together. I then chose a nice picture of someone snowboarding and edited it to make it look impressive and cool. I love the dedication that snowboarders have to their sport. Practicing a trick or a jump over and over again till they master it. There is nothing like the feeling of flying in the air. Extreme snowboarders feel that for a moment when they are in the middle of a jump. I think that is so cool! I hope to one day learn how to snowboard. I also came up with the slogan "Feel the Iron Teeth Strong Buzz!" Beavers have Iron like teeth and snowboarders are strong in their own way. People who drink energy drinks want that strong surge of energy so I think the slogan conveys this.

Starting to Learn how to build Advertisements

In the Beginning Advertisement course we had to throw things together and see if we could make a feast for our eyes. Needless to say my first homework art was not that great. I liked the little gray bear logo on the bottom right with the green helmet I created for it though. The second assignment taught us how to look at existing advertisements and how to replicate them by doing similar things and then adding our own twist or unique spin on it to make it our own. Thus we learned what was cool and what attracted customers.

This second project was very helpful to me and I love my cheeky "Peace and Fries" go together McDonald's advertisement creation.

Branding a Product to Market it

For my final assignment in my branding and marketing design lesson I chose a 2L Sweet Tea liquid I named Josh's Sweet Tea...In honor of my first love, southern sweet tea. That stuff is so yummy and addicting! I can drink that stuff every day. McDonald's Sweet Tea is the main inspiration. It actually does contain a subtle amount of Black Orange Pekoe. I created the brown gradient abstract brain illustration and the 3D juice box with the logo picture of a little purple brain. It's really fun to create 3D illustrations in Adobe Illustrator. I made a marketing package complete with an envelope and business card design.

Lucky's Supermarket Flyer Project

I didn't know much about the Lucky Supermarket store so I asked my friend to drive us to it. I walked around the Asian supermarket to get a feel for the type of things they sell, which are mostly food items. I also looked around to see if the store was decorated. I loved the packaged dumplings I found and the Mochi ice cream. I also thought the Terracotta soldiers on top of the grocery aisle, near the front door were unique and interesting and thus I decided to incorporate a soldier couple in my flyer project.
I don't really like the color pink but prefer peach instead. Red and peach compliment each other well and it added a good color palette to the flyer for Mother's Day. If you want to see what else I added to the flyer then please look at the picture. The layout design is my own original concept and the food photos were found on Google for this assignment.
